About
A handbook, not a city department.
LocalJax is an independent guide for people who live in Jacksonville, the beach cities, Clay County, and northern St. Johns County. The useful version of that guide is a phone number that still works, an address you can hand to a maps app, and a sentence that says which government you have actually reached.
Hours and phones change. When they do, the official page wins. The sources page lists when each page was last read. The suggestion form is how a correction gets back here.
The local list
The handbook is the official half. The local list is the other half: tacos, coffee, bakeries, bookstores, clinics, and the other places a neighbor would cross town for. A shop needs a public phone or an email, and a street. A trade, such as a roofer or a mechanic, needs a public phone or an email on the company’s own site. A street is included when that site prints one. A public park needs a street on an official page, and a phone only when that page prints one. It takes its cue from VOID, the magazine that used to publish this kind of list at the beaches. LocalJax writes its own, and the choices are editorial. They sit apart from the government directory.
A plain-text guide for search engines and answer tools is at /llms.txt. A shop needs a public phone or an email, a street, and a reason. A trade needs a public phone or an email, and a reason. A public park needs the official page and a street. Send those through the suggestion form. A paid mention will be labeled as paid on the page. None are paid in this edition.
What is still ahead
A weekly events email is the plan. The signup list is being collected now. Mail goes out once a sending service is connected. Write to hello@localjax.com.
Advertising
This edition has no ad slots. The privacy page will be updated before any ad network, including Google AdSense, is turned on. A labeled mention on the local list is separate from those ads, and the page will say when a mention is paid.
If you are new to the area, start with what serves your address or which number to call. Print the fridge sheet before hurricane season.
